How to Grow America’s Hottest Antioxidant Fruit for Food, Health, and Extra Money

Do you like blueberry smoothies? Do you want fresh fruit for your tasty snacks or breakfast?  Blueberries are delicious small fruits that cost way too much at the supermarket. Why not try and raise blueberries right at home? First things to consider when deciding to grow berry bushes at home are the acidity of the soil and the climate you are living in. The, be aware that the plants must have at least five feet of space between them. Also, the potted version will be best if you use 18 inches pots. Choose the Right Blueberry for Your Area

Blueberries are not all the same. Like peaches, nectarines, apples, and every other fruit, they come in a multitude of varieties, many of which have adapted to growing in certain climates. For example, lowbush blueberries are from the colder regions and are compact plants that hold berries for a long time.

Planting / Soil

The Almanac tells as that blueberries are picky about soil. They require one that is acidic, high in organic matter, and well-drained yet moist. pH should ideally be between 4 and 5. Bushes should be planted in the early spring. If available, one to three-year-old plants are a good choice. Be sure to go to a reputable nursery. Dig holes about 20 inches deep and 18 inches wide. Space bushes about 5 feet apart. Apply fertilizer one month after planting, not at time of planting.

    They are no longer GMO if you grow them, since there’s none of that GMO pesticide they use..
